AMD and OpenAI Announce Multi-Year Strategic Partnership to Deploy 6 Gigawatts of AMD GPUs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — October 6, 2025AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and OpenAI have announced a landmark multi-year partnership to power the next generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Under the deal, OpenAI will deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct™ GPUs, beginning with an initial 1 gigawatt rollout of MI450 Series GPUs in the second half of 2026. The collaboration brings together AMD’s high-performance computing expertise and OpenAI’s leadership in generative AI to build one of the largest AI compute networks in the world.

Powering the Future of AI

Through this agreement, AMD becomes a core strategic compute partner for OpenAI. The companies will start with MI450 GPUs and rack-scale AI systems, expanding to future AMD Instinct generations.

Both teams will share technical knowledge to align product development and boost performance across hardware and software. The partnership builds on earlier work with the MI300X and MI350X series, now evolving into a multi-generation collaboration that pushes AI performance to new levels.

Aligned for Long-Term Growth

As part of the partnership, AMD has granted OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million AMD shares. The shares will vest in stages as the companies reach deployment and performance goals.

  • The first tranche vests with the initial 1 gigawatt deployment.
  • Additional tranches vest as OpenAI scales to 6 gigawatts.
  • Vesting also depends on AMD’s share price targets and OpenAI’s technical milestones.

This structure aligns both companies’ long-term interests and supports steady AI infrastructure growth.

Executive Perspectives
