Daulton Varsho was born on July 2, 1996, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Gary and Kay Varsho. His father, Gary, is a former MLB outfielder, manager, and coach who played for the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, and Philadelphia Phillies. Growing up in a baseball family, Daulton was introduced to the sport at an early age.

He attended Marshfield High School, graduating in 2014, before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. While playing college baseball for the Milwaukee Panthers, Varsho earned Horizon League Player of the Year honors in 2016 after posting a remarkable slash line of .381/.447/.610. He continued to impress in 2017, batting .362/.490/.643.

Varsho is named after Darren Daulton, a former Philadelphia Phillies catcher and teammate of his father, honoring a meaningful friendship between Gary Varsho and Daulton.


Professional Career

Arizona Diamondbacks (2020–2022)

Drafted 68th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, Varsho quickly advanced through the minor leagues. He debuted professionally with the Hillsboro Hops (Low-A), then played for the Visalia Rawhide (High-A) and Jackson Generals (Double-A). By 2020, he earned a promotion to the major leagues, debuting against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

During his time with the Diamondbacks, Varsho showcased his versatility, playing as both a catcher and outfielder. In 2022, he led the majors in percentage of balls pulled (54.5%) and finished the season with a .235/.302/.443 slash line, 27 home runs, and 74 RBIs.
