Early Life and High School Career

Grunkemeyer grew up in Lewis Center, Ohio, and started playing flag football at age three. At Olentangy High School, he excelled in football and basketball. After being a backup his freshman year, he became the starting quarterback as a sophomore, throwing for 2,152 yards with 16 touchdowns.

His junior year saw him pass for 2,649 yards and 25 touchdowns. In his senior season, he threw for 3,517 yards and 39 touchdowns, guiding Olentangy to an 11–2 record. He finished his high school career with 8,401 passing yards and 80 touchdowns, setting multiple career and single-season records. Grunkemeyer also earned spots in the Elite 11 finals and the Under Armour All-America Game.

College Career

Grunkemeyer joined Penn State in 2024 as a redshirt freshman, initially serving as the third-string quarterback behind Drew Allar and Beau Pribula.
