Following the acquisition of the Nokia brand to continue with its smartphones, and after the huge push in repairability given by HMD in models such as the Nokia G22 , the new HMD Skyline aims to escape from the Nokia name without deviating from its design lines. Very repairable, with sufficiently high-quality hardware and a design reminiscent of gems such as the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The fever to revive the classics made HMD bring to the present models like the Nokia 3210 or the Nokia 3310, both updated and with special emphasis on price. Because HMD has decided to move away from the highest range of phones, its strategy is to distinguish itself as a sustainable manufacturer . In fact, the new HMD Skyline even allows you to change the screen by just removing a few screws. Not only that.

High-quality hardware with special emphasis on repairability

We saw the official photos of the HMD Skyline and it immediately reminded us of the design style of the legendary Lumia Windows Phones, especially the Nokia Lumia 1020. Straight cuts for the top and bottom, rounded side edges, aluminium body (in this respect it is different from the polycarbonate of the Lumia ) and very striking colours. In addition, the HMD Skyline’s cover is easily removed so that changing the battery or the screen is a task suitable for anyone.

The processor is at a very good level, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 should provide both power and graphics performance for games. Also efficiency; to which is added the interchangeable 4,600 mAh battery . Up to 12 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of storage, space for SD cards and with 33 W fast charging (no charger in the box). The HMD Skyline also has wireless charging, both direct and reverse.

The screen chosen by HMD for its Skyline features pOLED technology with a diagonal of 6.55 inches. Up to 1,000 nits of maximum brightness , a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and a hole at the top for the 50-megapixel front camera.

Speaking of cameras: the mid-range/high-end that the HMD Skyline is targeting means that the phone has a photographic combination that, on paper, looks promising. A 108-megapixel main camera with mechanical OIS stabilisation (also electronic EIS stabilisation), a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera and a camera with a telephoto lens and a 50-megapixel sensor.

To top it off, the HMD Skyline features a capacitive fingerprint reader on the side power button, is IP54 certified, and has second-generation repairability with all parts available at iFixit.
